Money Saving Tips - SAFETY

Are You Using A Carrier That Could Cost You Money Because Their Safety Statistics are Unsatisfactory?

Trade Show Transit is an independent agent of Landstar. In our humble estimation, Landstar is the safest carrier on the road today. The biggest training effort Landstar puts into their drivers and support personnel is Safety because it leads to dependability and a better quality of service in many different ways (i.e.- carriers with high safety scores by US DOT get automatically cleared through inspections when terminals are busy keeping shipments on time, higher safety scores is directly equivalent to higher dependability in shipment success and claim ratios, and so on.). We know that everyone is not familiar with Landstar, so aside from showing how they stack up against the major carriers out there in two major safety related charts based on data from the US DOT, we're including a brief informational tid-bit on Landstar at the bottom of this page.

See how your carrier stacks up to the safety and depdability of Landstar!

Top National Motor Carriersfor ISS-D (Safety Inspection Selection System as rated by the US DOT) ISS-D is a decision-aid for vehicle roadside driver/vehicle safety inspections, which guides safety inspectors in selecting vehicles for inspection. The ISS Value is based on the carrier's safety performance data which includes crash, roadside inspection, driver, and safety management experience.

(the lower the score, the better rating and lesser ratio of accidents, claims, and violations)

Values: 1-49 Pass, 50-74 Optional, 75-100 Inspect

Motor Carrier SEA (Safety Evaluation Areas) Statistics, Provided By: US Dept of Transportation
*Select van line trade show related carrier statistics shown below

*Landstar ratings are combined between Landstar Inway and Landstar Ranger

**SEA = Safety Evaluation Area / The US DOT has come up with a rating system to evaluate carriers by their drivers and vehicle incident rates. These percentages approximate the carrier's percentile rank relative to all other carriers within the same SEA. The higher the SEA value, the worse its safety status.  For example, a carrier with an Accident SEA value of 80 indicates that approximately 80% of the carrier population with sufficient data had a better safety performance than that carrier with respect to crashes. SEA Values above 75 are considered deficient (SEA description taken directly from the US DOT web-site).

***OOS Percentage = Percentage Rate of Vehicles Receiving an "Out Of Service" Violation from an inspection. Meaning, after inspection, the vehicle violation was severe enough to force the vehicle out of service.

*Note: All statistics shown on this page are supplied from August 2009 reports by the US DOT

Landstar is a global transportation company, a Forbes Platinum 400 Company (for 9 consecutive years), and is publicly traded on the Nasdaq. Landstar is one of few carriers that maintians the QS 9001:2000 quality certification and all drivers must maintain HazMat certifications making our drivers (arguably) the most experienced and safest on the road today. This is why Trade Show Transit, an agent of Landstar, has highlighted some of the US Dept of Transportation safety statistics and evaluations on Landstar and other national carriers so you can see how they match-up against other carriers.
